The ROSCARS were you there?
Wow what an event….The Roscars, Rotherham annual Oscars. It all took place in an amazing Big Top marquee in the grounds of St Bernard’s Catholic High School. The Big Top was packed with talent from across Rotherham, scheduled to take over 750 guests. As one the sponsors and judges for the event we were delighted to share a table with the Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham. Also on our table was Christa Ackroyd judging the TV category from BBC Look North where the judging which took place a month or so ago.
The evening was compared by Dave Benson Phillipsthe children’s presenter who did an amazing job to keep the proceedings moving with a great smile and ensuring everyone was having some fun along the way. The real stars of the evening were of course all the children and young adults from schools across Rotherham, pupils from KS1 through to Post 16. They had all made such a great effort to dress in their finery of smart suites to beautiful dresses appropriate for an Oscars ceremony.
We were treated to interludes of talent from an African drum group, to dancers, singers and a blues band who had all taken part in a recent R Factor event. Rotherham certainly has talent!
There were a number of Roscar categories from animation, to still image through to video and of course podcasting. Lightbox Education presented awards for both Audio and Enhanced and Video podcasting. Rotherham had purchased Podium Audio last year and many schools have been submitting entries over the last year. The best were submitted for this category of the Roscars.
Here are the winners from the Podcasting categories:

KS2 - Roughwood Primary

KS3,4 & 5 - Newman School
There were two special attendees: Two year 6 VIP guests from Redwood Primary, Connor and Joe.
I understand that they have submitted no less than 50 podcast episodes and were invited, dressed in their tuxedo’s to conduct interviews throughout the evening. All school podcasts can be found on the Rotherham Podcasting website. From here you can navigate to teh Primary school directory, find the Maltby Cluster and Redwoods podcast.
