Poetry and Podcasting

We used the BBC’s Off by Heart project to kick off our poetry theme.This new initiative from the BBC aims to encourage primary school pupils to engage with learning and reciting poetry. Supplemented with Doug’s amazing collection of poetry books teachers were soon playing with Podium and quickly learning how to record their chosen poems.

By the end of the day and a lot of experimenting, everyone had recorded their poem and had a lot of fun along the way. We closed with Doug challenging everyone to share their ideas on how they would use Podcasting and we had some great ideas from podcasts of a field trip to Cadbury World to developing our poetry theme with some of Shakespeare’s Spells .

It was great to see such a large group of eager teachers gather in Luton on Nov 5^th to spend the day exploring Podcasting. Little did they know that we weren’t going to actually mention podcasting until lunchtime!

Doug Dickinson got everything started by simply asking how teachers were using digital sound to enhance teaching and learning in the classroom. Exploring how sound can be recorded and used really struck a chord and before long everybody had a list of things they were going to go and try out at school .
